Naruto creator's accounts are fake, says publisher

The official X(Twitter) account for the Naruto comic series warned fans of a fake account impersonating creator Masashi Kishimoto.

In the Japanese-language post from April 8th, publisher Shuseisha asked fans to 'exercise caution' because 'manga artist Masashi Kishimoto does not use social media at all... any account you see claiming to be him is not really his account'.

Kishimoto is known by manga and anime fans around the world for his Naruto series.

Currently there is an account with Kishimoto’s name and photo which has over 300,000 followers. The account has an official-looking blue checkmark, despite being an unofficial (imposter) account.

Fake accounts for other anime creators and voice actors have been reported in recent years. Murase Ayumu, who voices the main character of the anime 'Haikyu!!', recently posted about their troubles with impersonator accounts and how they will be consulting a lawyer.

Scammers sometimes pretend to be famous people, offering fans 'prizes' in exchange for their personal information.

If you find a fake or imposter, you can report it by clicking 報告[Report] then スパム(偽のアカウント).
